Sharing Is Caring: Getty makes hi-rez images freely available for download

I’m very excited about the Getty Open Content program that was announced in August. I am very much of the idea that public domain images should be shared freely when possible. Declaring these images free for download takes away some of the perceived ownership and hurdles in acquiring images for various uses. I also like that they are calling it Open Content instead of images, access, etc. so they can add more Content to their offerings in the future. In this announcement The Getty has in fact said they are working towards releasing more content for free, such as publications and vocabularies. I hope to see more museums and cultural heritage organizations join the movement. Here is a pretty good list of the various open collections currently available: http://openglam.org/open-collections/
